  • Jude: Level 1
    Jude: Level 1
    by Julian Gough

My new novel. It starts with the award-winning, BBC broadcast prologue, "The Orphan and the Mob", and continues with Jude's quest for True Love in Tipperary, Galway, the Aran Islands, and Dublin... Love, death, arson, philosophy, and sex. Starring Jude, an orphan who looks the spit of Leonardo DiCaprio. Except for having two penises. Which makes True Love... complicated.

  • Juno and Juliet
    Juno and Juliet
    by Julian Gough

My first novel, of which I am very fond. The adventures of teenage twin sisters Juno & Juliet, in their first year away from home. Life, love and literature, in Galway and Tipperary.

Forum (Talk Talk Talk...) > The Kathleens

Hi Julian great to hear you are doing well and getting the recognition you always deserved!

I'm doing some research on Galway bands from the 80's & 90's and trying to find out some info on one called The Kathleens - no one seems to remember them , do you or anyone else reading ?

thanks Padraig

Sure have and know them personally, well still in touch with half of them including the singer. What do you need to know?

Mighty, thanks for stepping in there, S.

Padraig, I do remember the Kathleens. The singer had a splendid fringe, one of the finest ever seen in Irish popular music. I think they recorded in Pat Neary's studio, West One, and I'm pretty sure some of the other Heretics know them, so I'll email you contacts for Pat Neary, and for a judicious selection of Heretics. Barry Wallace plays bass with the Rye Band these days, and knows everybody, so he might be your best bet.

Anyone else with any info, do drop by. Any other bands you're chasing, Padraig?

Yeah Julian that fringe is still going strong (albeit quite grey now) when all else have lost theirs completely (well me anyway!).

They made an album but split up before it's release, the singer Ray Butler now performs as John Dog and is resident in London. The rest of the line-up was Derek Naughton on drums, Eoin O'Donnell on bass and Fergal ? on guitar.

Kelly Strøm did the artwork for the never released album, check it out here…

I'd say they formed about 1991 and split up about 1994-ish.

They played some great gigs in the old Monroes...if you need to get in touch with singer let me know and i'll drop him a line...

Grand so Padraig. He does some open mike slots here and there around London and has just recorded a new demo. I'll get in touch with him and respond on this forum next week hopefully.

Bestest,
S.

Sorry, I was away for a few days, with no internet (and very restful it was, too). You all seem to be getting on grand, so I'll leave you to it...

Hey chaps,

I'd be happy to help out, Padraig. Is there an email address I can get you at, or would you prefer I just post some bare details here, host permitting?

Cheers,
Ray Butler, former Kathleen
