Forum (Talk Talk Talk...) > Galway Book Club

Hello,

My name is Tristan Goodfellow. I am a member of Galway BookClub (URL above). The next book we will be reading (after The Third Policeman...which is coincidental seeing as I see a reference to it in one of your critic's reviews) is Jude Level 1 and we will be discussing it on the 27th October in The Cottage Bar, Salthill. Is there any possibility at all that you might be in Galway to attend the meeting?
Recently, the author of Barbelo's Blood attended the discussion of his book and the members all thought it was brilliant to get an insight into the thinking behind the story. I know this is a long shot but it's worth a try I suppose. I'm writing this from the Quad in NUI Galway :)

Thanks
Tristan

Hiya Tristan. I've emailed a reply to your parallel email, but in a spirit of openness & transparency, I'll copy it here...

The Cottage? I lived about three minutes away from there for years. But I was kicked out for non-payment of rent, dash it, so I relocated to Berlin.

I'm honoured your club has chosen Jude: Level 1, and l wish I could be in the Cottage on October 27th, but I'll be stuck in Berlin, missing deadlines.

I have a thought however... Would you be interested in tweeting your thoughts and questions from the Cottage via Twitter? If so, we could arrange an online version of that night in parallel with it, and I could answer any and all questions, and other readers of Jude: Level 1, wherever they may be, could also join in. We'd just need a short hashtag (#JudeBC say, for Jude, book club) and anyone clicking on that tag would see all those commenting, fighting with each other, arguing with me etc. But you probably know all this already!

I'm spending a lot of time on Twitter lately (I'm @juliangough, if you're looking me up), and I like the various #litchat discussions, and this might be amusing. Of course, it might not suit your group, you probably don't want to bring laptops/mobiles into the Cottage, you might get your heads kicked in, but it might make for an intertesting experiment. I could spread the word a bit online.

Anyway, a notion...

Hope you are well and happy,

-Julian
